Aufguss<\/strong><\/em> is a German word, meaning \u201c<\/strong>throwing of steam<\/strong>.\u201d This ancient wellness ritual, conducted by a qualified operator (the Aufgussmeister<\/em>) inside a Finnish sauna, involves throwing water or ice<\/strong>, also enriched with essential oils, on<\/strong>to<\/strong> hot stones<\/strong> in a fire pit in order to create steam and humidity to raise the temperature of the room. Through rhythmic movements of a towel<\/strong>, sometimes accompanied by background music, the Aufgussmeister then directs the hot, aromatized steam<\/strong> in the direction of the guests, creating an intense and pleasant multi-sensory experience<\/strong> with an immediate and lasting beneficial effect that increases in heat felt on the skin promoting: dilation of peripheral vessels, a drop in blood pressure and an increase in sweating.<\/p>\n

Aufguss in the Turkish bath<\/strong> is performed in a very different environment than in the Finnish sauna, due to the lower temperature and high humidity that promotes blood and lymphatic circulation, regularizes blood pressure and decongests the respiratory tract.
